Families are systems, so when one family member experiences challenges or changes, the rest of the system reorganizes around that change through a parallel process. We know the parallel process occurs when clients enter treatment and as families take their next steps. Working with families with one member entering residential treatment presents complexities that can be challenging for outpatient providers supporting the family before and after residential. This workshop discusses how to support individuals and their families entering residential treatment, reviews the general structure of a residential treatment program and what referring providers can expect both for the individual and the family, and explores strategies for supporting the individual and family in their next steps. Presenters will share psychoeducation, case studies, tools to integrate into daily clinical practice, and facilitate discussions to provide opportunities for peer supervision.
About the Presenters:
Jack Britton, LADC, LPC, VP of Clinical Services at Turnbridge
As vice president of clinical services, Jack ensures the ethos of Turnbridge’s mission is carried to and thrives within all our programs. He also recruits and hires superb clinical talent from around the country. Additionally, Jack builds and develops relationships with Turnbridge partners through tours, conferences, and speaking engagements. He holds master’s degrees in accounting and counseling.
Prior to Turnbridge, Jack worked in Minnesota and Texas, where he developed a passion for working with young people and their families. Over time, Jack saw first-hand how quality of life improves the most when a person engages in long-term treatment, a truth supported by decades of research, and so in 2016 he moved to Connecticut to work in Turnbridge’s young adult extended care program. Since then, Jack has worked in a clinical capacity in all our service offerings. In 2017 he started Turnbridge’s community outpatient program and in 2020 co-developed and launched the company’s first adolescent residential program.
