Assessing For Problem Gambling

Problem gambling is on the rise in Connecticut, affecting individuals from adolescence to older adulthood. As symptoms become more prevalent, the need for effective assessment in mental health and addiction settings has never been greater.
This 1-hour presentation will explore the increasing impact of problem gambling and emphasize the importance of improved screening and intervention. Attendees will gain practical tools to assess gambling-related issues and determine when clients may need additional treatment.
Brian Dolan, MHC, CRC is a recovery coach and mental health counselor specializing in Problem Gambling and Addiction in CT. With years of personal experience in recovery, his professional experience includes working as a treatment specialist in residential programs in FL and CT, the Director of a collegiate recovery program in CT, and a managed a recovery residence at Fairfield University. He has a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling from Fairfield University. Brian works tirelessly to destigmatize substance and gambling addiction and advocating for changes in laws.
Jumana Murphy, LCSW, CASAC-G is a psychotherapist in private practice in CT and NY. She is the founder of Shine Psychotherapy, a group practice specializing in addictive disorders. Jumana’s passion is in working with families of young people struggling with problem gambling and offering insight and concrete tools to helping them support their loved one in recovery. Her approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that people have the knowledge and strength within themselves that is needed to solve their problems and to make effective changes in their lives.
