OBJECTIVES: At the end of the presentation, Participants will be able to:

  1. Explore the benefits of cultivating clients’ spiritual development in substance use disorder treatment.

  2. Discuss 2 strategies to assist clients with personal barriers to spirituality.

  3. Explore 2 practical mind-body-spirit techniques and that will assistant clients in developing their spirituality.

  4. Identify the corresponding therapeutic strategies of these mind-body-spirit techniques




“Engaging Families in Substance Use Disorder Treatment” By Julia Purcaro, LMFT, CASAC and Courtney Hulse, LMFT. 2 CE’s


Julia Purcaro is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor working at Mountainside- Huntington, NY. She has extensive experience working with adults, adolescents, and families with co-occurring disorders in substance abuse residential treatment programs. Throughout her career, Julia has managed departments in substance abuse programs, provided clinical supervision to help team members expand their knowledge and skills, and assisted with program development. At Mountainside, Julia uses a systemic approach to help clients work towards their treatment goals in individual, group, and family therapy. She incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Structural Family Therapy to assist clients in making positive changes as individuals as well as within their family systems. 

OBJECTIVES: At the end of the presentation, Participants will be able to:

  1. Explore the benefits of the parallel process of family involvement in substance use disorder treatment.

  2. Discuss barriers to family involvement in substance use disorder treatment.

  3. Identify techniques to use and factors to consider when engaging families in substance use disorder treatment.

  4. Review the importance of the therapist’s self-work when engaging in clinical services for clients and their families.

“Addiction Recovery: An Integrated Approach to Healing” By Anthony Nave, LCSW, and Courtney Hulse, LMFT​. 1 CE

About the Presenter: Anthony Nave, LCSW

Anthony is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a master's degree in Educational Psychology and Clinical Social Work. He is advanced certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and an EMDR Consultant-in-Training. He is experienced in medication-assisted treatment (MAT), co-occurring disorders, and gender-specific programing. At Mountainside, he is the Senior Manager of Canaan Outpatient Services and designs curriculums for clinical programming, while incorporating interpersonal neurobiology and trauma responsive framework into one-on-one counseling sessions, family sessions, group therapy, and supervision.

This presentation is appropriate for: clinical professionals, psychologists, therapists, counselors, and social works.

OBJECTIVES: At the end of the presentation, Participants will be able to:

  1. summarize how IPNB can be used as a framework to build an integrated healing approach to recovery.

  2. summarize how addiction impacts the brain.

  3. summarize how IPNB can be used as a framework to build an integrated healing approach to recovery.

  4. identify the different levels of care used to help treat substance use disorders.

  5. Identify evidenced based practices to help treated SUD.

3:00 - 4:00 PM – Presentation #3: Spirituality in Treatment (1CEU)
