“Glued to the Game”: Understanding Excessive Video Gaming, Addressing Family Conflict, & Fostering Balanced Habits

In today’s hyper-connected world, young people’s obsessive technology use can lead to social, emotional, and academic struggles, fueling arguments and frustration within families. This presentation, “Glued to the Game” unpacks this complex issue by exploring the factors that make youth susceptible to excessive video game engagement and equips helping professionals with strategies to educate and guide families in fostering a balanced and intentional approach to technology use. This presentation will also present on identifying key indicators of potentially problematic video game use, including considerations for young people with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and Depression and Anxiety.

Eric Axel, LCSW specializes in child and adolescent development and co-occurring disorders.

This presentation is appropriate for: clinical professionals, psychologists, therapists, counselors, and social workers.

OBJECTIVES: After this In-Person workshop, you will be able to:

1. Identify the factors contributing to excessive video game engagement among young people.

2. Identify key indicators of potentially problematic technology use in young people.

3. Identify and explain effective communication strategies that parents can use to foster a balanced and intentional approach to technology use within their families.
